WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS #37

Welcome to Weekend Writing Warriors. Each week participating authors post 8-10 lines from a work in progress. My contribution is continuing from CATHERINE: Pride & Prejudice continued... Book Two (Hopefully will be ready for release Fall 2017)

Lord George and Catherine Bennet (Kitty) have arrived at Longbourn and Kitty is sitting on the horse in front of Lord George, who has his arms around her. *gasp*

Lord George slid off the horse and reached up for her. She placed her hands on his broad shoulders and with great care he lifted her off Buttons. Katherine fully expected him to set her on her feet, instead, with little effort, he swung her up into his arms and turned to face her parents.

"I apologize for this breach of decorum, but Miss Bennet has been injured. Do you have somewhere I may take her?"

"Right this way, Lord Kerr." Mr. Bennet said, waving his arm toward the front entrance, obviously  recognizing Lord George from Lizzie's wedding.

"Oh, my nerves, my whole body is trembling. Hill, I need my smelling salts," Mrs. Bennet cried out and held the back of her hand to her forehead, swaying on her feet.

Mortified by her mother's familiar antics, Katherine fought the urge to burrow her face into Lord George's shoulder. How could Mama behave so badly in front of such an esteemed guest, the son of a Duke, no less?

There you go. The all too familiar Mrs. Bennet has shown up :)

WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS #36

Where has the week gone? I feel like I was just here seven days ago *snicker*
Lord George has helped Catherine onto his uber cute horse 'Buttons' and they should be on their way to Longbourn... or not

He was wedged against her so tight his voice resonated through her body and his essence, the sheer maleness of him surrounded her. The sensation was as much frightening as it was exciting. All her romanticized day dreams of Lord George Kerr having his arms around her did not come close to the real thing.

All too soon the thrill of having his arms around her subsided as with each rocking step Buttons took, pain spiraled across her ribs and it took all her concentration to take in shallow breaths.

"We're almost there, Miss Bennet, I can see a house through the break in the trees."

She lifted her gaze and almost wept at the sight of Longbourn. Both her mother and father exited the house to greet them, no doubt having been warned by a servant they were coming up the drive. She expected a full on assault by her mother, and was not disappointed.

"Whatever happened?" Mrs. Bennet's mouth gaped open at the sight of Katherine seated in front of Lord George, his arms around her in a familiar fashion.

And the saga continues next week.

WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS #35

Each week a group of writers join in a friendly type of blog hop where each share from a current WIP (Work In Progress). The trick to this seemingly easy to do blog hop is that you have to share a scintillating passage in just 8 - 10 lines. Ugh... Sometimes impossible to do! I've endeavoured to please you again, continuing on with Kitty and Lord George. We've discovered his horse's name is 'Button' (cue the collective 'Awwww') and so - carrying on. Last week we ended with, "Buttons?" ...the horse was a handsome steed, worthy of a name like Zeus, Juno, or Lightning.

"Laugh if you must, I bought him from a friend whose son named the beast. To change it now would confuse him greatly." He placed his hands around her waist and lifted her with ease onto the saddle. She grimaced from the pressure on her ribs and once again he apologized. "Let's get you to your home and then we can send for a doctor."

With that he swung up behind her and she immediately stiffened, arching her body away from his strong, solid one. He slid an arm around her waist, his other hand loose on the reins.

"Relax, Miss Bennet, I've got you."

Clamping down on her teeth, she nodded and allowed her body to relax into his.

"You might want to hold onto my arm, to give you better balance."

There you go. Lord George is sigh worthy... I thought I'd share my inspiration for Lord George.

We ended last week with Catherine being carried up the embankment by Lord George and when she tried to stand, her ankle wouldn't hold her weight. To refresh your memories:

"No!" she pulled away from him and almost fell again in pain. This time her ankle refused to hold her weight....

And now the continuation of CATHERINE: Pride & Prejudice continued... Book Two

With lightning fast reflexes, he caught her before she hit the ground.

"We can't ride together, what will people say?"

With his arms firmly wrapped around her, he glanced up and down the road. His eyebrow arched and he grinned. "What people do you see, Miss Bennet?"

"You never know who could come along, no, I'll have to walk."

She pushed lightly against his chest and he allowed them to separate, but kept his hands firmly on her forearms, to steady her balance.

"No," he said, his tone resolute. "I'll walk, you'll ride Buttons."

"Buttons?" She tried not to laugh because it hurt, but the horse was a handsome steed, worthy of name like Zeus, Juno, or Lightning.

About the Author:
Although a writer of sweet+ Regency romance, Gianna Thomas, a native Texan, doesn’t hesitate to tackle some of the grittier events in life. Even back in Regency times, the world of that day experienced war, hatred, prejudice and crimes against women. And, we even see those things today. It seems that people don’t change.

Romance, especially Regency romance, really appeals to Gianna, and she loves writing about it whether Pride and Prejudice variations with Darcy and Elizabeth or love stories involving dukes and duchesses. And she is a prolific reader of Regency romance as well.

Gianna discovered Pride and Prejudice, and its many variations, what ifs and fan fiction in 2012. She was totally fascinated by the variety of plots that eager authors had utilized. After reading nearly 400 variations and fan fictions, Gianna now has P&P plots running through her head. She finally decided that they needed to be put to paper (today, on the computer), to see how they would develop. She has an absolute ball in writing about Darcy and Elizabeth and is pleased with how things have developed. Her goal will always be to entertain and touch hearts. Hopefully, with her first rendering, ‘Pride and Prejudice: Darcy Chooses,’ she achieved that goal. And with her latest book, ‘Darcy vs Bingley,’ she hopes to touch your funny bone as well.

More recently, Gianna started looking beyond Pride and Prejudice, with her first foray into Regency Romance generally, with ‘The Four Lords’ Saga Series.’ She is finding that she loves all the lords, their ladies, and their families, and writing about them is one of the most fun-filled adventures she’s ever been on. There are four books in the initial series, then there will be other novellas/short stories concerning the lords and their families. There’s nothing better than to read and write about handsome bad boys who change their wicked ways for their ladies. And the four lords fit the bill perfectly. Join the many who will learn why four confirmed bachelors decide, unexpectedly, to seriously consider marriage after escaping parson’s mousetrap for years. You will love the reason why.

A Message from Gianna

I woke up one morning with an idea for a new Pride and Prejudice variation where Caroline Bingley is determined to wed Fitzwilliam Darcy by hook or crook. However, Darcy is not going to be backed into a corner by a compromise. He fights back, and you will love the set down he gives Miss Bingley.
With this particular book, I wanted a lighter-hearted Darcy instead of one overly weighed down with pride and responsibilities. So, more of the emphasis is on a happier Darcy who has experienced coup de foudre or lightning strike of love at first sight with Miss Elizabeth Bennet. He is in full, happy pursuit of the woman he loves and intends to marry. And if he encounters a little mud along the way, who’s going to worry about that?

Does the title refer to just Caroline Bingley? Keep in mind that there are two Bingley’s at Netherfield Park, so anything can happen.

I had a blast writing this book, especially Caroline’s comeuppance, and hope you read it in the spirit it was written. It is NOT canon. It is meant to be a fun read. Enjoy!
